We journeyed to Plant City, Florida for the weekend to experience the last weekend of the 75th year of the Strawberry Festival. Zander did really well on the drive to and fro. Saturday we checked into the hotel in Lakeland and then ventured into Plant City to explore. We went to bed kind of early since we forgot to calculate the loss in hour of sleep for daylight savings.
On Sunday morning we ventured to the festival where Zander was given a free balloon and took a ride on the traditional Merry Go Round with dad - which he didn't seem to like so much this go around. Evan was going to take him on the Berry Go Round, but we were afraid he would be too scared; So we opted for a picture instead. All kinds of fancy carnival rides and games....and might we add expensive! Maybe we are just getting old!
He experienced the unique smell (or should I say smells) of a carnival type event. Every kind of greasy food you can imagine: Chicken on a Stick, Elephant Ears, Turkey legs, Strawberry Shortcake, Strawberry Fudge, Chocolate Dipped Strawberries, 30+ varieties of funnel cakes, Homemade Sodas, Fresh Squeezed Lemonade, and yes, Chocolate Covered Bacon. We decided to forego the fair food and ended up at Chili's for a soup and salad lunch instead. Although, Evan did get a homemade Cream Soda, which he said was pretty good.
Before heading home, we stopped off for fresh strawberries and mums. We had a fun time doing something new. Maybe we'll save up and go back in future years when Zander can have a little more fun.
